- Please tell us about your current department and your role there.
I’m a member of the Purchasing Management Section. It is the section that procures materials, manages inventory, and ship out products in consideration of the delivery dates of our customers.
In the section, I am in charge of purchasing tasks, such as the order placement for materials, management of delivery dates, and coordination of shipping based on the production plans for the products I’m responsible for. Fundamentally, we cannot produce products that can satisfy customers if we lack the materials required for production.
So, I’m responsible for ordering the optimal amounts of materials so that production does not stop. In addition, we produce many kinds and models of products at Shachihata Engineering. I strive to realise the various wants of our customers by managing the respective delivery dates of these diverse products and coordinating their shipping.
- What do you find especially rewarding about your work?
As I mentioned before, Shachihata Engineering produces and delivers many products to customers. Some of the same materials are used in products, of course, but there are also many unique materials required for each product. It is complicated and challenging to order such a large number of materials, manage the delivery dates for products, and coordinate shipment.
I often face such challenges, but when I see new products produced in the work I am involved in, I feel satisfied and fulfilled with my tasks. I’m always excited when products are completed, imagining the customers who will get them and how they will be pleased.
- The section really manages from the “entrance” to the “exit” of production: from the order placement for materials to the management of the delivery date and coordination of shipping. I felt that each and every task of the members of this section supports production.

- Is there anything in your work you are particularly committed to?
My work has an influence on my colleagues engaged in production and logistics. So, I try to organise tasks that may have an influence on those who are engaged in the next tasks and set priorities in order to optimise overall production. A product cannot be produced if just one material is lacking. The order placement for materials, in particular, influences the tasks of my colleagues engaged in subsequent processes, so I am always thinking ahead as I work.
- So, it’s everyone’s job in this section to not only support production but also serve as a conductor who improves the efficiency of overall production.
- Could you tell us about the environment and atmosphere of your workplace?
It is a warm workplace in which senior colleagues in the same section teach us many things and support us in a variety of situations every day even though they are busy. When I first started, I had a lot to learn, such as the names and part numbers for many materials and the optimal timing for placing orders, but I feel that I’m performing rewarding work thanks to my senior colleagues, who kindly taught and supported me even though they were busy.
- When you saw the attitudes of your senior colleagues, were there any things that were especially impressive or enlightening?
I’m learning many things from my senior colleagues every day, such the way they conduct each of their tasks while always thinking ahead. I also conduct my tasks by imagining their influence on subsequent tasks in order to catch up with my senior colleagues, who support the production of many products.
- Are there any challenges you would like to take on in the future?
I would like to take on the challenge of acquiring various qualifications related to my daily work. In the production management field, there is the Business Career Kentei (official qualification exam) , and I would like to take it as a challenge to improve the quality of my current work as well as my personal growth.
